here we go again folks
before i go into detail i will just point out that this is my first disco and i'm not exactly very active due to arthritis so tend to want to know what's what before threatening the bloody thing with the old spanners (it's bigger than me!!)
i have what appears to be a typical 300tdi oil leak from the area around the rocker cover and/or engine breather. in order to frighten this into submission i have bought a rocker cover gasket (blue hylomar to go with it) and a new cyclonic breather.
now here comes the question.. in the haynes book of words it recomends that the gasket from the breather to the rocker box is carefully removed and that a new gasket is used on refiting. ok i can go for that but according to the local lr dealers there is no gasket between the breather and rocker box.
has anyone had the breather off? and obviously the next question is was there a gasket fitted or not.. if so would my trusty blue hylomar be man enough for the job? or where will i buy the damn thing from so i can cure the only leak my disco has.

When you talk about the breather do you mean the black cylindrical item that bolts to the side of the rocker cover? If you do, I've had a few of these off and they NEVER have a gasket but they DO have a rubber 'o'-ring. I usually Hylomar the two meeting faces and that works well.

yes that's exactly the item i mean .... by the way why don't ****parts include the bloody o-ring in the box? are they deliberately being stupid and obstructive?
