With a positive result for a change.
I had the fan cowl off last year for a head change, and didn't bother putting it back on until Saturday past. The engine has been running fine, but the heater gauge has been sitting just below the 1/4 mark. The engine is running cool, no doubt aided by a recent new radiator. The stat is opening an closing OK. Nothing unusual here - except that when I fitted the cowl back on, the cooling effect of the rad appears to have been restricted a bit and the engine now runs a bit warmer - the guage is now reading just above the 1/4 mark, and the heater air is noticably warmer. I had expected the opposite. Wierd?
On a related note, after reading a heater thread here, I checked the seal around the water inlet/outlet to the heater - it was non existant, and the heater was blowing 30% of it's output into the engine compartment (very useful). A quick squirt of expanding foam later and I now have a warmer, more powerful heater. :D
