yellow knob wont stay down

hi can anyone help me, just swaped motor from petrol to montego turbo diesel and took a long time between work to convert.since its been back on the road the yellow selector knob wont stay down to engage hi or low i have to hold it down while i engage the red lever probable through not being used for months any ideas or is it a strip down and probably a divorce.

Yellow knob is for engaging 4wd in High range only by pushing it down. It disengages and pops up when the Red lever is moved. Red lever forward high range, back for low range and 4wd. You do not touch the yellow knob for 4wd low range, by pulling the Red lever back 4wd is automatically selected.

still cant get 4 wheel drive in high wont engage keeps bouncing back up instead of staying down when in high

sounds like it needs ajustment or try PUTTING SOME OIL IN THE TRANSFER BOX!!!!!!! ITS ALL LEAKED OUT
