When I bought my 90 I pulled the step and tow pack off. The bolts sheared withhin the x member and its not bothered me... until now!

Fitted a nato hitch and done away with the twin step, now I want to fit the original folding type to get into the back.

what is the original bolt size? Imperial is all I know.

could I not just cut a metric thread through the bolt? or run an M10/M12 as close as possible to original size?

Not used (or bought) a tap/die set. what do you recommend? and are they easy to use?

cheers :)

You may be better drilling close to the sheared bolt rather than try and go through it. See what the best fit bolt goes through the bracket and check if you can get at it from behind if you drill through the x member. If you have access you could bolt it on rather than try tapping a thread? Cheap and easier option.

The holes are tapped M10

I had the same happen to mine, I drilled through the sheared bolts and re-tapped them to M12

.

If you look in screwfix there are bolt removal bits for your drill that are counter threaded. If you can see the end of the sheared bolt, it might be easier to just remove it and replace it like for like? I can't remember how much they were, but they've saved my bacon a couple of times.
