Hi Folks quick question. I have bought a new rear X member and end plates and wondered if i need to weld the plates on before i fit the xmember or after its in place?
cheers

Also if i do have to remove the rear quarter to weld it in what do i use to stick it back on with?

well started today by removing the passenger side rear quarter, lo and behold huge holes everywhere! so started off by patching those to start with. Then removed most of the rotten x member, suprisingly the door side is very solid? wheras the other side is as rotten as a pear.... so tomorrow evening shall set about removing the rest of it. Photos to follow.

Ok so had to bite the bullet and remove the rear quarter on the other side as there is a bit of repair needed to the E pillar that you cant get at with it on. Still on the up side the body underneth the skin is in a decent condition so a quick wire brush and wax oil and it's a good un. Have ordered new body mount rubbers and the U channel section between the floor and the new Xmember, so once they arrive i should be good to start welding :) must take some snaps.....

I wish i had removed the quarter panels just to be on the safe side, plus I wouldn't have a whit panel at the moment from where I cut the quarter at the sill.

What x member are you using? Wolverine, Cyclopse - OO' OO' Storm although she is sexy she does have a tendancy to blow hot and cold:hysterically_laughi

Seriously though pics please

pics now added, sorry for the quality it was done before coming to work this am.

Any advice on the end plates? should i weld them to the body before the crossmember goes in or weld them to the crossmember first then the body?

The body looks in reasonable condition compared to some I have seen. You r repairs are looking good too.

Sorry I can't give advice on end plates as I'm not sure what you're referring too.....

Thanks for the comments on the welding, i haven't picked the torch up in at least 3 years so i was fairly pleased with the way it's gone so far. The end plates are the ones at each end of the crossmember that replace the ones that have rotted off the end of the e post. I think i may tack them to the crossmember and see how they fit as i think it will be easier to line them up. Just waiting for my new mask to arrive as the old welding goggles are pants!!! then i can get stuck in :D

Oh I see. I replaced one end plate in stu and it was easy enough. Dont forget plenty of drain holes aas the cross member does fill with water and crap
