my series 3 has not got seat or seat belts in back tub so is it ilegal for people to ride in the back also the middle seat in front has no seat belt so does that mean no one can sit in the middle so do i need to fit a lap belt in front etc

Definitely illegal in the back, No seats = No passengers. But the front depends on the age. If seatbelts were not originally fitted, but the seat was, Then its OK. I cannot remember when the law was changed to make the fitting of seatbelts compulsory but if your motor was registered before this then its not illegal but not advisable either.

if seat belts are fitted they must be worn at all times.

outbound front seats must have belts fitted from 1967, front middle 1973 and rear from 1983.

this is from memory so double check.

the biggest problem is insurance with rear seats, i was told i had to remove the rear bench seats for the insurance to be valid.

Illegal in the tub if no seats..illegal in middle seat without a belt.
1987 springs to mind to have seatbelts fitted in the rear of a vehicle. Centre seats do not need to wear one if both other seats are occupied, from memory.

In general if they are fitted you are best to ware them.

You also need to have proper seats in the back and not just wheel arches.
