Had a galv bulkhead fitted to my 300tdi 110 earlier this year, now Im wondering what to do with the old one. I put it on ebay a few weeks ago, but it didnt sell. Ashtree Landrovers have offered me £75 for it as it is.

Would it be cost effective for me to weld repair panels to the footwells and top corners, and then sell it on? Bearing in mind I will have to pay a welder to do this for me. Suppose I could then have it galv-dipped. Would I be wasting my time?

What do you think?

Stick it back on eBay and sell it "as is". If you've got to pay someone to repair it, and then pay to have it galvanised, you won't get your money back.

I agree, all that work & outlay for what might end up to be a smaller payback than you have already been offered.
Difficult to see the extent of the rot from the photos supplied but I would even think twice about Ebaying it if they have offered you £75, even if you were paid cash on collection and there were no Paypal fees you would need to get at least £90 to cover the listing & final value costs and of course there are the inevitable questions and 'buy it now' queries you get with that type of item. Of course there is always the chance that a couple of bidders will push the price right up but if they don't you will have to make a decision the day before whether to pull it from the auction or not.
Personally I couldn't be bothered with the hassle and would just get rid.

Ok, thanks for the replies. Ashtree are happy to collect it from Richards chassis which is close to where I live. Doing it this way might be a far easier option.

Although there is nothing finer than a bunch of folk trying to outbid each other on an item your selling on ebay. Sold a Defender dashboard once for £120, that I had bought for £25:eek: I couldnt belive it:)

A reserve costs more (not much I know) so to gaurentee at least the £75 offered by Ashtree you need the reserve to be even higher to ensure all fees are covered. If for some reason it didn't reach the reserve you will have lost the increased listing fee.
If selling on Ebay follow a few similar items for a couple of weeks to see what they actually sell for before making a decision.

stick it on ebay but put your phone number in the item description for "any technical questions" - if anyone has any sense they will ring you with offers and cut out ebay and paypal.

It works, "my mate" does it all the time!
