Worn front prop CV?

I have had loads of issues with my 52 plate TD4 over the past 6 months. So far the following have been replaced:

Rear diff
VCU + bearings
IRD
Front driveshafts
Tyres + balancing (all 4 at the same time)
Lower engine tie
O/S upper engine mount
Lower suspension arms and bushes
Anti roll bar bushes and drop links

:(

The car drives much better now than it used to... however I am left with a judder/vibration which is most noticeable when accelerating under load (up hill, towing) at around 20-40mph. If I accelerate from low speed in a high gear on a level road then it's not noticeable.

It feels like it's from the font of the car, but it's difficult to tell. I checked the front prop where it connects to the IRD and there is a fraction of movement in it, you can here a slight click and it moves up and down. I am not sure if a small amount of play is normal or whether it should be completely solid. All of the other joints on the prop seem solid. I can't see any movement in the UJ's.

The only other possibility is the rear diff mounts, these have not been changed but don't look as if they are knackered. There is some movement in them, but I don't have any clunking noises etc. from the rear.

Can anyone advise on the front prop or any other ideas?

Thanks.

Wow you have replaced some parts - how many miles has if done?

I have something similar on mine but I am coming to the conclusion that it is a slight misfire under load as I accelerate - possibly an injector out of spec.

I am running done Millers diesel treatment through at the moment and after one treatment it seems to be improved a bit do I will give it a few tanks. It's a cheap fix of it works - £12 from Halfords.

I have tried other makes but it did not have much effect - prole on here swear by Millers and they may just be right - fingers crossed.

I pop millers in every tankfull..Neil stuff! not a hint of misfire or any smoke at all even when motoring hard or changing down to overtake! worth trying of your doosel engine has done a few
miles IMOH

Jack the car up on the subframe, get under the vehicle with the wheels off the ground. Then one hand on the left driveshaft, one on the right driveshaft. Feels the difference in CV's. If one is distinctively more than the other, you've found your fault.

Seen quite a few go, though for some strange reason its normally the o/s/f one :)

The symptoms you describe are those of a worn driveshaft, they tend to shimmy a little under hard acceleration in a straight line. Keep in mind it could be just about anything else as well though :D

Thanks for all your replies... yep it's done a few miles (122k). The front driveshafts have already been replaced so I am confident that those are OK.

I hadn't really thought about a misfire but I guess it's possible. I will take a look into that.

Mark.

The symptoms you described are very similar to what occurred twice with my FL (2.5 V6 2006). The cause was inner CV joint failure. I agree that, if you have already replaced both driveshafts, it should not happen. But I would insist on the inner CV joint failure.

Make sure you prop was refitted in the correct alignment maybe?

I have heard your symptoms before and i do remember once it was actually down to some new tyres having been fitted. It wasnt so much a misbalance, i think it was just general mismanufacture of one of the tyres.
