Hi, As some may know I was 17 yesterday and aftrer a 2 hour driving lesson in a Yaris 1.4 vvti, I went home and drove my 2a on a 70 mile trip out!, Went brilliantly and I never left the wheel..

Well the gearbox is noisey and has a major oil leak.. I will not fix this as I know the hastle what came last time when my first Series needed its gaskets and seals changing.. it ended up in a complete rebuild costing £150-£200 and took months for me to do!. So ill let this box go bang when it does and swap for my other box which I did up..

Also the Speedo doesnt work even thought it has a new cable so that wants a play..

Main problem is the steering.. the landrover doesnt like to keep its front wheels straight its a bit left to right and theres some play in the steering obviously it wont handle like a modern car, but at speed it feels dangerous!. So Im guessing I need to adjust the steering box, Can anyone tell me how to do this?. Also thinking of fitting a steering damper as the roads around here are pretty rough and it might help the wooly steering?.

So any ideas or suggestions?. The linkages are all tight and joints are fine.. Although its suicidal at speed! :D

many thanks.. Matt

They do wander a bit. Feels a bit like a sailing boat compared to a modern car. Big tyres don't help either. You should try driving a JCB on the road, it's all over the place.
If all of the steering parts are in good order and the tracking has been done. I'd put the rest down to it being a Series.

there is a nut on the side of the steering box that you can adjust the toightness of your steering, i found a big speel on a stage 1 website, were really good.

on steering dampers, me lightweight had one but it made the steering mega heavy and slow, though the damper wasnt probably in best nick and it recockulously big tyres which didnt help either! :D

i'd have a go on the steering box adjustment as i thought all series were the same until i bought my diesel one which feels soild with no wobble or wollyness, though it dunt go that fast.....

Ok will have a gander tomorrow after I get back from my day out at the CCV Track  .. Dont suppose you could find the link to the "speel" on the stage 1 website? ;)

Sorted it now.. Well took all the play out of the steering, Didnt know it was possible!. I have not had a road test in it since so will report back on how big an improvent it has been.

Thanks!
