After being off the road for 8 months now, i've finally picked up an axle for the Series :) Its been really depressing walking past it every day with not driving it in so long, so, getting an axle is really quite exciting.

It is currently leaking oil all over the carpets in the back of the Disco - i'm hoping to find someone to shotblast it for me today though. (It did confuse me how my disco had an oil leak by the drivers side rear tyre, until i realised it was coming from the foot well. Still, at least the hole in the body work has been protected with oil now!)

:clap2:

If its a military axle with a 3.54:1 diff it's the one that some theiving **** nicked from the back of my shed
I was only saving it in case someone on here needed one as its no use to me :(:(

It came from the other side of the country to you, from a nice guy with a few series... if he did nick it from you he went to a lot of effort for £31!

I changed the original to the Salisbury axle and gave the original away to someone (mistake No.1) after adapting the Salisbury to fit, it worked well for a while, but, then had a bearing failure which resulted in the wheel and hub assembly being 1m away from the rest of the axle... as i was driving down the road. Bit of a minor brown trouser moment really.

After 8 months i've still not worked out what i'm doing with the Salisbury bearings, so, thought an original axle again would be the easiest solution.

Ooooo....post the pic, post the pic :D

Was doing my bearings the other day with my son and was telling him about yours but couldn't find the pic to show him

Hopefully that works? I can't see the pic as at work, but, copied from the old post

http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f6/so-i-driving-work-morning-when-happened-177810.html - 8th feb that happened, long time with no Series in my life :(

you'd think that after doing 3 engine swaps plenty of welding, full brake replacement, head gaskets, etc. that i'd be able to sort a bearing out, but, I haven't been able to so far, so, there you go

Thats the one  Cheers Mike.

Probably a bit late to ask what's the problem with the bearings now

I'm going to put the axle back together 'one day' (that day in the future which is ALWAYS in the future and is only ever reached about a month after you've finally given into the wife continously nagging you about the thing which is just "lying around and will never get finished" so you dispose of it)

I'll then sell it as a Salisbury converted for a 88" or keep it as a spare for when i break the new one.

Long and short of it is i don't know what's wrong with it all, i just can't get it back together
