wont start

hi, I just went to start my 110 defender 300tdi. all the light came on but the engine didn't start or turn over. I changed the battery in the fob, tried setting the alarm and un setting it but nothing.
please help as I need it asap.

check the fuses, the 2 in the fusebox (marked check manual) these are for the alarm/immob and will give symptoms you have, failing that check back of the ignition switch for a stray wire (mine came of a few times this weekend)

If all else fails, a screwdriver from the main live to the solenoid should get you going (it will spark, watch your head

)

thanks, I managed to jump start it and take it around to my mates who reckons it could be the starter motor. so I've go and fetch a new one, when I got home and switched it off it started first turn so don't know weather to change it or not as I can guarantee when I need it in a hurry it wont start.

was there a click, or nothing at all, if theres a click, its the solenoid playing up, its be hit n miss, AFAIK you can just change/refurb the solenoid.

if it was completly dead, no click or owt, Id suspect a bad connection on the back of the ignition switch, or the switch itself

If it jump started the first suspect is battery. If thats definitly ok check connection at starter, solenoid, alternator and battery, including earths to chassis and engine and the small spade connection from ignition to solenoid
