Hi all, been trying to start my s111 thats been fitted with a N/A 2.5.... it last ran about 3 years ago. I drained off the old fuel and put in fresh (and a new filter) its got a new battery. It turns over fine but wont even give a hint of starting...even easy start has no effect.
I think the fuel system is air free, I used the lever on the lift pump until fuel came frome the banjo nut on top of the filter, then did the injector pump by loosening the little bolt on the top and again using the lift pump until fuel comes out..... does that sound about right?
The heater plugs are wired in so that you have to switch them on by holding down a switch.....while this system used to work Im not sure that its still ok... best way to check please?

Best way to check is take one out and see if it glows!!

Before you do that though, the trick with the N/A is DONT TOUCH THE THROTTLE !! Do the 20 second pre-warm, turn the key and it should start...only rev it once it kicks in.

Hi there

If you've disconnected the fuel supply its very probably got air in the fuel lines and no matter how many times you pump and bleed it will be a pig to start. I spent weeks trying and nearly killed my wrist and the battery doing it. After weeks of trying i opted for a very simple method of starting.

The easyest way of starting the engine is to get a tow from a mate with another truck and a very hefty tow rope. Just leave it in gear and the ignition on and the air will be forced out of the pump and injectors and it will start, even without glow plugs.

Forget trying to bleed by hand, its a wrist breaker and a pretty poor way of bleeding the pump and injectors.

You can check your plugs by checking you get 12 volts supplied to them when you press the button down. Once you've got a tow start( and bled the fuel lines doing so) let it run and warm up. Once you know its going to run without cutting out, turn off and let it cool down a bit, then try firing up using the glow plugs.

If it runs on 3 cylinders then coughs and fires up all cylinders its going to be a faulty glow plug causing an issue. To figure out if a cylinder isn't firing use a wet rag on the exhaust manifold pipes. If the cylinder is firing the pipe will fizz pretty quickly after starting. They are really cheap for a set of 4 plugs.
Pretty sure once you've bump bled the fuel your starting issues will be a thing of the past.

Fingers crossed
Dave
