dear all i have just rebuilt a series 2a (in under a year) lol and everything is splendid apart from it wont go into two wheel drive??
In four wheel driver with yellow lever down, when you go into low range it pops up all ok but will not ingauge into low or high in two wheel....does it a breeze in four wheel. am i doing something wrong
if you try and force it, it grinds??

please dont make me take the gearbox out again pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze :(:(:(:(:(:(:(

low box is 4 wheel drive all the time high box is selectable 4 wheel drive by pushing the yellow knob down, when the transmission is in high range to return back to 2wd pull the red knob all the way back into low range then back in to high range and it will pop back up again

if everything is working right......

it was stuck in a field for 8 years doing nothing, before they used it in four wheel drive only due to a broken back half shaft .....could it just need a bit of use .....always the glass is half full lol

The yellow knob should pop up only as you go into low box. Is it popping up fully? The shaft can jam where it passes through the gearbox tunnel. If 4wd high is not fully disengaged then it might interfer with high/low selection

my friend pulled it up hard as i disingaged 4 wheel drive seems to come right up and still wont engage high and low?

Take out the floor (or grovel underneath) and check the operation of the shaft at the front of the output box by the front diff. It will be worth removing the dust cover.
It may be just a gungey pivot or the locking pin.

If it looks ok, then remove the output box (which you might be able to do without removing whole box, dunno, sorry) as the pivot thing that links the shafts may be displaced or broken.

took dust cover off and noticed shaft nearest driver door very rusted and doesnt look like it has moved for ages, cleaned and lubricated and tapped it inwards....moved ok but not free as i see the other two shafts moving fine, seems to be in two wheel drive guessing as yellow lever is up when red one is pushed forwards.......havent drive tested it yet as too dark but moves in all ranges ???? also passed MOT with no advisories sweet

Ok part two. removed floor tunnel clutch thingy and output shaft housing cleaned all freed everything up in the rain laying on the wet ground at night. put everything back together..........put the drive dog the wrong way around  took it all apart again split my new home made gasket, made another one got back down on the floor in the rain and dark put it all back the right way round and bingo it works a treat.......just going for a nevvous breakdown and then i will put the floor back in!!!!
