I have noticed more and more posts relating to the "New" Range Rover models.
I thought that the 2002 on models were "Super reliable" and all the problems relating to the P38 had been resolved. Obviously I am mistaken.
A few years on and we have history repeating itself it seems with all sort of weird problems being reported.
Is it me or are all the problems related to the later model Range Rovers (P38..On) with all their sophistication etc. (Supposedly more reliable ???).
When I think back to my 1991 3.9 Classic, I didn't have half the problems that later cars give and at times I would gladly change my 4.6 HSE for a pristine Vogue.
I suppose it's called "Progression" but it's starting to become evident that even the latest models still have their problems..perhaps it's a "Land Rover" thing.........or with me being a sceptical old bastid...a means to keep the Stealers in business and the manner to which they have become accustomed.

For me the 3.5 hotwire or 3.9 classic were good motors.
The p38 was a disaster in terms of reliability, L322 seems to be going the same way.

I went out to look at a VW T5-first thing to do is log faults with vag-com.

Drove couple of old cars recently and rode my carb'd bike- it was almost organic.

Come the revolution things will be different-not necessary better, just different

None of your "Slipped liners" etc. with the 3.5..Just run 'em into the ground.

A money machine, looking at the enquiries I'm gettin for dig outs.

That's free software ain't it ??

I'll go along with that !!!

Basic functions are free, but coding/modifying and body modules needs registered copy of Vag Com

NAIL, HEAD, HIT.... there John mate ..............

In that thread about should we have separate forums by model I said much the same thing. That as more and more P38s make the one way trip to the yard and as L322s age and change hands, we'll see that reflected by a decreasing number of posts about P38s and more and more about the L322.

As for all the electrofrickery - I hate it. I think most designers now have been brought up on Playstations and unfortunately they decide what we should have. Power windows, steering and brakes by all means. Who needs anything else? For example it never bothered me any to bring the car to a halt, select neutral and then select 4L on the transfer box and push off again and you can bet that was pretty darn reliable. I mean there are 50 year old jeeps in daily use around here. Love to see an L322 in 50 years that still works for a living!

From what I could gather from the latest Toyota recall in the States, they're at the point where the steering wheel is basically a potentiometer driving a set of servos through the car's computer and then "simulating" the feedback from the road. The recall was because sometimes the computer would forget to centre the steering wheel after a turn. I mean seriously!

You are right John more and more posts are appearing for the L322 and the similar niggles are still there. Maybe the main head gasket has gone but their are alot of electrical problems as more and more electrics are added to the cars of today and the Range Rover is done up to the max with electircs. Fanatic has a good point in that the basic can deliver a good car and be reliable although it is nice to have all the toys when they are working correctly.

Pity the manufacture can't make them last!!!

I think the usable classics of future will be rare-electronic failure

its not just range rovers look at any of the so called leading makers and there are major problems with them all for me my p38 has takena bit of fixing but now is as good as any car her age if not better and drives bloody marvelously apart from a funny old shudder but there you go
