Don't forget the condition of the roads too. I've sometimes thought there's something wrong with my brakes or steering and it turns out to be tramlines worn in the tarmac. Looked at in low evening light you can see why the steering seems to have a life of its own under braking on some roads. Do yer testing on a bit of road that's more flat, and it's easier to see if the car is at fault.
