Sitting there with my 8 year old during a 50 mile motorway trip and struggling to hear a word she uttered, got me thinking that I really should turn my attention to sound deadening my 90!

Thing is, I'm fond of both my kidneys and looking at the cost of some of the products out there (Dynamat, etc), I'd likely need to donate one to satisfactorily complete the job!

This product looks just the ticket and is reasonably priced:

Anyone able to offer feedback, or a suitable alternative?

Thanks again for any suggestions.

Which model of Defender do you have? Fitting carpets helps quite a lot if it doesn't already have them.
NK group (0161 652 7080) sell soundproofing mat (self adhesive) either shaped for Defenders or £10 per sheet to cut and fit yourself.
There's loads you can do, each thing will reduce noise a little.
Engine blanket (although the TD5 already has an acoustic cover) bonnet insulation, carpets, soundproofing mat, drive slower, buy a Discovery lol

What you linked up looks like open cell foam, if it is then that is the last thing you want to fit. It will just soak up all the water and rot your Defender from in inside out.

Soundproofing has to be done in layers using different materials to actually get it to quite down!

Ideally you need something like Dynamat/Fatmat on most surfaces, followed by a closed cell foam (will not soak up water), then rubber/carpet over the top.

Just to add I would avoid Noisekiller. I saw some of their work on a mates Defender and it was shockingly poor, I could have done a better job with no fingers and one eye.

Buy a Discovery... I ended up hating my tratter because of the noise it made, I'd lined the footwells with sound deadening stuff and the seatbox, side panels, doors and roof but it still made so much noise:(

Noisekiller product appears good quality and reasonably priced.
l was not suggesting you let them fit it, it's easy to DIY.
Their underbonnet kit fitted great and the square pieces are easy to cut to shape and fit under the seats etc.
Dynamat looks good but it's so dear. The Defender kit is over £200

With any defender no matter what you do it will never be as quiet as a disco and even if you get it somewhere near the smell from the manky damp water from internal water leaks will make it so you wish you hadnt bothered!
I measured the db sound in my hardtop 88 with tdi and it was unreal, amazingly sliding the windows open dropped the readings quite a lot.

I would be more concerned with your kids hearing, maybe a set of comms gear like bikers use? cheap and kills two bird with one stone, of course you will both look as daft as can be:D

No sun roofs on mine which was another deciding factor

I used cheap closed cell foam off ebay. Put original carpets back on top and LR Defender rubber mats in the front. Knocked the sound down no end. Mines a 96 300Tdi CSW. Will probably be quieter than a truck cab anyway.
