Autobiography does not mean top spec, it can mean it was special order that deviated from standard spec. Technically deleting leather from a HSE would make an Autobiography as would adding leather to a County.

+1 Autobiography means very little. Just customised by first owner but spec levels can be random to say the least.

Biggest give away is the 'Autobiography' badge has been mounted perpendicular to the ground. On P38's the text swept in a bottom left to top left sort of ark.

It's only on the later L322 onwards that it started to be mounted horizontally.

If I had a pound for every time I saw a standard HSE or DSE/DHSE with a hooky autobiography badge stuffed on it sold as 'Super top spec ltd edition autobiography rare' I'd be able to afford a real L405 Autobiography!!

Dude you've missed nothing there...

They should have a Special Vehicles plate on the slam panel if genuine. Most genuine sellers will show this in adverts.

Mine is an Autobiography apparently... the only difference appears to be a badge on the back and a badge on the dash! Assuming it's genuine (which I doubt) logbook lists it as HSE.

Badge placement apparently varied according to who was sticking them on at the factory according to the P38 bible Range Rover the second generation. A damn good read if expensive (I borrowed one from a mate!)

Good point. That said I once had a Holland and Holland P38 (which I regret selling every day - X129 BUX. If anyone ever sees it for sale, do let me know. I want him back!) and I don't think that had an LRSV badge.

My father had a 1997 Autobiography and the only extra over standard was an extended wood pack, nothing else, and that still had the LRSV badge on the slam panel.

I just bought an Autobiography.....Its a non standard green and has a white coachline and the badges, otherwise its an HSE. Not sure if there is a plate under the bonnet but there is paperwork confirming it to be genuine....Pretty "low" spec, a couple of small bits of wood inside and green piping on the seats.

Just saw the documentation for the one I bought.......Painted BRG with beige coachlines.....Green piping to a lightstone leather. Bumpers, mirrors and sills painted Brg. No fancy wood but its an Autobiography...whatever that means. Lol!

+1 all autobiographys start as a hse, they are tailored to the individual purchaser & could be as simple as just 1 upgrade,EVERY autobiography has a special vehicle build/vin tag under bonnet no exceptions(well everyone ive owned/broke/seen) so if it aint there simply it isn't one.

Mine doesnt have the plate but the paperwork confirms that it is an Autobiography. Maybe somebody took it off years ago? Like I said, Im not bothered by this as Ive always thought an HSE adequate..
