I've got a carling contura 2 with the aim of wiring the heater through it.

I pulled the three connections off the LHS slider and connected them to the switch:

earth to the centre pin
1st speed to the bottom pin
2nd speed to the top pin

Generally, the switch does as it should: on fast / off / on slow

However, the small illumination panel that comes on when activated is confusing. If the heater is on slow or off it is illuminated but not when on fast.

I've tried another switch and it is exactly the same - any thoughts?

What switch have you got exactly? From what i can make out, there are loads of different ones. The mud website says they come with a wiring diagram. Can you post it up here?

There lies the problem:

I'm using 1 and 3 as power in with 2 running to earth.

I'm going to look at the wires going into the heater........

Gone back to the LHS slider control.

The carling switch doesn't work exactly how I want it to. Although it can be wired with the two lives at 1 and 3, and earth at 2, the red illumination bar indicating that it is on comes on when the switch is in on(1) and off but not on(2). Having done more research the carling switch is not a truly double pole as even when properly wired the most you can hope to achieve is the illumination bar on at on(1) and not on(2).

I could open the switch and play with the internals....cold day job.....

Options:

A. Re-wire the heater motor.

B. Utilise two relays unless there is such a thing as a double relay?

C. Stop messing about and leave it as it is now it's working properly again!
