@ Mullen - thanks for the advice. Switch replaced. Now parking as they should. Not sure if mine's supposed to have intermittent or not at the first position? Did you track down the relay for that? (SCRUB THAT - FOUND A THREAD ELSEWHERE SUGGESTING MY 90 IS TO AGED TO HAVE THE INTERMITTENT SETTING)

Thanks guys. I have just looked up on here to find out how to change the switch on my 200tdi. It took me 5 minutes flat.
I feel like a mechanical genius.
I think all cars should be built like Defenders, they are so easy to work on.

They were ... they were called 'Series'

Finally fixed... Changed my intermittent relay behind the main fuse box. Wipers park correctly and intermittent also work. My suspisions were right. It's been a while but now all work fine. Very satisfying that
