My wipers packed in the other day (When it was raining of course!)

Torn most of the dash out :( only to find that the spring-drive to the wiper blades has snapped where it comes out of the motor

The motor has some kinda gearbox thingy on top (I have not dismantaled it yet) and the spring-drive appears to have broken inside it. Do i need a whole motor + box + Flexy-Spring drive unit?? Or can you buy it in parts??

The motor is working ok :)

Looks like a nightmare to get the wiper flexy drive out :(

Where can I get these parts ???

Iain :)

No need to dismantle the dash or remove the motor.
Take the cover off the wiper gearbox and you'll see the end of the flex drive fits over a peg on a drive wheel. This can be un hitched, then you can pull the flex drive out of the tube.
You'll need to remove the wiper arms and get an assistant to help by turning the splines on the bulkhead, whilst you pull the flex drive.
Just get a new flex drive and reverse the procedure.

Should not be a bad job as you only need to remove wiper arms to allow the rack(drive spring thingy) to be withdrawn from the wheel boxes .
The rack is a common part for this type of wiper drive system , used on loads of vehicles esp Austin /rover etc Its just a question of finding one long enough to replace yours . the flat plate cover on the top of the wiper motor needs removing and pull the rack off the drive peg , HTSH

Cheers guys,

I will get the wipers off and source a new springdrive hopefully from either of a couple of local folk :)

If they dont have one, any ideas where i could get one (Apart from Landrover!)??

morris marina , mgb, maxi, morris minor, triump herald any vehicle you can find with that type of wiper motor, a lot of later vehicles went to multilink type wiper drive .

WooHoo, Thanks guys - Got one from a local Landy Specialist Kirkstyle in Kemnay, £6 and several cuts on my hands later and its fixed!

Happy Days :) (just gotta sort ma hardy spicers from pinging now!)
