WP_20170514_16_29_04_Pro.jpg WP_20170514_16_29_04_Pro.jpg Hi All,

Why is it never easy?

Had a set of Wipac LED indicator, side & brake lights for my birthday and finally gots some "Me & Landy Time!" Couldn't find anything on which Relay to replace with new variable relay/flasher unit, so put hazards on and removed/replaced relays in turn, under steering column, until hazards no longer flashed. Fitted all Led lights, which was easy enough as it's a 2008 Defender 110 and correct connectors.

Now for the big switch on, all lights illuminate as they should, but Indicators run slow? Tried different settings on variable flasher unit/relay, but no change in flashing speed? The only thing I've noticed is the green trailer light remains illuminated from start up without trailer attached, which didn't happen previously?

Photo of Fuse Box below steering column, variable relay top left.

Your help and advice is much appreciated as always.

Hi All,

Just tried old flasher relay in, which is a Wehrle 13 201 103 Flasher 12V 2+1(6x21)w, not too sure if this is a standard Flasher Unit relay or one fitted to accommodate tow bar/trailer wiring? With old relay in, no green trailer light, but flashing "Mucho Rapido!"

Any help/advice much appreciated.

Hi Jonah,

With the hazards on turn the little knob on top of he relay one way or the other until the trailer light stops flashing.
As for them running slow, not much can be done, if you think they are too slow then get on to Wipac for a replacement flasher unit. That's about all I can suggest mate!

Tony.

Hi Jonah , It might be the relay I know its new but have seen a few posts were it was new and knackered. got leds fitted to my 200tdi and there fine, flash ok and no trailer light but I've got an RDX relay from bolt on bits.
cheers Ian

Hi All,

Thanks for quick responses.

Have, as Tony suggested, turned relay knob and trailer light off now thank you.

Think it must be a dodgy relay as moving knob either way has no effect on slow rate. Not timed, but flash must be on for 2-3 seconds then off for a split second and then back on. Will get on to Wipac in the morning to get a replacement.

Will let you know how I get on and if I get it solved.

Thanks again Fellow Landy Lovers!

Andrew

Hi Jonah,

Hope you get it sorted, just one quick note though, the knob on top of the relay isn't for adjusting the speed, it is just for rectifying dashboard errors, i.e. the trailer light!

Regards

Tony

The correct way to adjust the knob is to turn it to the point just passed where the trailer repeater light doesn't light. That way as soon as you connect a trailer the additional load of the trailer indicators will make the repeater flash. If you go too far there is a possibility that when you connect a trailer it wont detect it and flash the repeater light which is technically an MOT failure and also won't warn you of a trailer indicator bulb failure.

Hi All,

Many thanks for advice and info on flasher unit relay.

Emailed Wipac and they sent me 2 New Flasher Units, delivered next day, which I thought was great customer service. Installed new one and YEAH the indicators flash as they should. As suggested turned knob on back of relay until trailer light went out.

Interesting that all sales info online for Wipac flasher unit relay by sellers advises that relay adjuster is to adjust flasher speed, not to correct error lights on dash. Luckily there's a very knowledgeable group of Landy lovers on here to keep me on the right track.

Just have to fit & wire in LED reverse & fog light now, no easy 2 pin connectors here so watch this space!

Thanks again All for your help, much appreciated.

Yep try the bolt on bits relay. Solved my issue although I soldered diodes onto the tell tale to add resistance too.

Hi All,

Reverse & Fog Light fitted now, used 2 pin waterproof connectors via Amazon worked a treat.

Thanks again for all responses and help.
