hiya guys

sorry guys and girls but ive been a complete numbnuts, as i put on my wipers by mistake before clearing the snow and naffed them up.

they work fine on speed one and two but on intermittent they get stuck half way across the screen then go down the get stuck half way up again,

was wondering is there a seperate relay that i may have burnt out or have i completely stuffed the motor up.

i know i deserve getting sworn at for being so thick.

also when i use to press the remote twice it unlocked the passenger and rear door it now no longer does that and i have to open the door with the inside door handle.

just didnt know if there was a procedure to reprogramme it.

i have been really impressed with the freelander only got stuck once all four wheels spinning on sheet ice , i then saw the tc light come on and it slowly got me out.

what tyres does everyone recommend as im down to about 5mm on mine and know that i will need a new set in the near distant future

let my tyres down to 26psi from 30psi, have got 215 tyres on at the moment.

hope everyone has kept safe and warm with no bumps and scrape's

may i wish all a pre safe journeys and health in this horrible weather

take care

gary

With the wipers, the timing is controlled by the motor itself if I remember correctly, so no reprogramming, may need a new motor. If it works on some speeds but not others the wiper linkage is probably undamaged, so the motor may be knackered.

Not sure what is wrong with the superlocking/unlocking on the fob. If its opening your drivers door on one click its weird that it's not opening the rest on the second click. Do the doors lock/unlock using the switch inside? Try this to rule out a loose connection somewhere, if they don't all lock with the inside button you may need to trace wires/connectors. Checkout the haynes or rave CD for a wiring diagram.

thanks, i still cannot belive what a numbnuts i was putting them on before i cleared the snow, oh well its done now.

i will find out to see how much a new motor is. might weight for the warmer weather or see what a garage may charge will check it out in the new year with christmas coming up.

still so pleased i bought the freelander seeing how its got me through the snow with only one incident on a sheet of ice.

the doors will all lock with the internal switch, but when i try to unlock them again with the switch will only unlock the drivers door and have to manually open them inside, royal pain

thanks as always

Hi Gary,

you've not been around for a while, hopefully everything is going okay for you.

1) wiper problem, may just be brushes in the motor, not sure if you can change these or not, used to be able to on older cars

2) locking problem. check if the rear tailgate is unlocking. think you've probably just got a failing passenger door lock. I made exactly the same mistake, thinking the vehicle was only unlocking the drivers door. however, the tailgate doesn't unlock in the conventional sense, and you can't hear it click. As it has a microswitch release, when it unlocks, it is actually an "enable" signal from the ecu. check the function of the tailgate after 2 unlock presses. hopefully it will only be the passenger door lock. these take about half an hour to replace, about £75 from main stealer, or, if you can wait, they come up on ebay. got mine for about £45.

3) tyres, running michelin lattitudes on mine, were the replacement for the much loved synchrone. well happy with them, been fine in all the snow and ice, no traumas at all. think the going rate was about £100 each, but that was 2 years ago. mine still have bazundels of tread on them, have done 25k on them now.

good luck and take care

Does the intermittent option stop halfway when the wipers are moving freely ie fold the wipers back so they are sticking up in the air, then try the controls.

If they work when free, I'd say the screw mechanism is partially worn???

I have a spare OEM wiper motor, PM me if you are stuck

hiya buddies

not keeping bad thanks, been trying to beat an infection in my foot, had to have surgery last week as they cut away some of my heel, jokingly i said as the weather is bad can they fit some spikes to my foot lolloo, i know i shouldnt have joked but my way of dealing with it, just a bit worried that they cannot control the infection, but im just being silly but it had crossed my mind.

a huge thanks about the great info. ive got to check the door locks, looks like i will be under the bonnet change the motor, but got to wait until my foot heals as i dont want to get the cold into it.

my excuse to sit in front of the tv, but had to go and play in the snow with the freelander, lolo

thanks so much guys

gary
