Windscreen wipers just stopped working!

Hi,

Yesterday my windscreen wipers just stopped working!
They have always been temperamental as they never worked straight away I had to keep flicking the switch to get them going. And they would only work on fast and super fast lol

Now they are stuck in the middle of my windscreen and they won't move.
Randomly my rear wiper has now got a mind of its own and just comes on as and when it feels like it which is just weird.

One garage has said its either the 'linkage' or the windscreen motor. One was £220 to replace and the other is £270 to replace on joy.

Is it something I could do myself or a definite garage job?

Just to eliminate it, have you checked the fuse?

it sounds as though it is your stalk switch especially if you have had trouble with it in getting them going in the past ,check all conection before though.

It's not the fuse that has been checked, I was hoping it was the fuse! And of course it's been raining today! Lol typical. Yep I think it's the switch in the stalk a swell, no idea why my rear wiper keeps turning itself on and off though because that's turned on and off from a button on the dash, nothing to do with the stalk lol! Just weird!

what about the relay ??

Just asking cos i had this on my old bmw too - cleaned the contacts and it was OK for a few months until i traded it in

Rear wiper will come on when you reverse with wipers switched on. Is that why its turning itself on and off?
