Right, I have a 1976 series 3 which has a wiper motor. In a series 3 I've been led to believe that the motor is a 2 speed, is that correct?

In mine the wiper switch has only 2 positions (it works as off and on by rotating it to the left and right, no middle position) so how does that work for a 2 speed  The wiring diagram leads us to think it should be 2 speed. the switch in the diagram has 3 rotary positions and a push in for the screenwash which is confusing us

Might be wrong but I thought only later Series 3's had 2 speed wipers....1980 onwards.

I seem to recall the 2 speed switches being difficult to obtain / pricey so i suppose its possible that if you originally had a 2 speed its been changed to a 1 speed. Just a thought.

Cheers :) I'll have to check the date on the diagram, if its a later manual that could be what the problem is :D Yeah we did think the switch could be the problem if there is in fact a problem that is :D

It's a Series....just be glad they work :D

My 72 S3 has 2 speed wipers but don't know if it's an original motor

Haha yes, but as im rebuilding mine atm might as well try and make it work well :D

I have heard and thought that series 3 were 2 speed but maybe it is only later ones. I'll check and see if the diagram matches up with the age of my one and I'll see

Hi Sam, mine is the same as yours, on and off, single speed only. Was there a switch with another position for two speeds?

No just the normal wiper swith. I'll get photos tomorrow of what I mean, like the diagram and the plug and things, might make things a bit easier to understand

Here is the same diagram we are using, just cropped to the part for the wiper motor. The top wire going to the bit labelled 43 is the washer pump, 31 is the switch and 37 is the wiper motor

Mines a late s3 and only has the one speed. She's ex raf and have been told the single speed is military spec, but no proof on this.

Found out the book ive got is 1981 so could very probably be a later diagram. Its just odd how the plug matches the plug in the diagram (with 5 pins). Cheers for all the replies guys :)
