Disco 1 Windscreen rubbers

300tdi on M reg, all window rubbers are cracked so looking at replacing them, trouble is i cant find anyone that supplies these items.
The biggest problem is the front windscreen that p-sses in water after rain.
Anyone know how to get hold of them?

Try Rimmer bros,they stock,or can get them,just looked on their website.Also check if D2 windscreen rubber fits,as the rear glass one is the same,just a thought.

not sure,but i would have thought it would be one single piece.

Rubbers on 300Tdi windscreen only there for finish appearance sake, the windscreen is bonded i.e. glued in with a Sikaflex type material as far as I am aware, the reason I know is that I also have a badly leaking windscreen that has cracks as well and needs replacement, the shop that does the replacing reckons they are a bit "fiddly"
The windscreen surround "trim" rubbers are 4 pieces on bonded screens, getting them out in good enough condition to be able to re-use them is the fiddly bit.
The earlier version of a Disco had a rubber mounted windscreen, not sure when that ended and they went bonded, maybe 1993.

Great reply,so if hoopys screen is leaking,it would be better just use a gun sealant on it?.

Yeah, thanks for the heads-up gemsdad, Gazbo is right. On 300 Tdi Disco the windscreen is a bonded fitting, the rubbers are pushed/glued/whatever on afterwards .. if the windscreen's leaking it's nothing to do with the external rubbers!

Having said that, Hoopfish, there is a chance that water gets in between the rubbers and screen, and gets into the vehicle via a convenient hole, bad grommet, rusty bit (would you believe?) etc.

A sealant and gun would be best, but don't try to remove the external rubbers before you get new ones, they don't come off easily. Better, as a 'fix' rather than a full-on repair to just lift the edges and squeeze the sealant in. Mine went on the top edge, water making it's way all over, but sealer worked fine forever after ..

Thanks for all the reply's chaps. Learn something new everyday, didn't know they are bonded. I have the roof lining out at the moment so I think I will try silicone from the inside out and see what that does!
I cant get anymore silicone on the outside, in places it bulges the rubber out a good inch or so.

There is a mouldable adhesive which cures to a rubber like material called "Sugru". It looks like it's designed for things like repairing windscreen rubbers.
I think there is some on fleabay.

Hoopy,it might be a good idea,to remove all the old silicone,using the proper sealant remover,then start again,if you have that amount in,as you say,then it will never seal correctly,good luck.

This is a picture of mine when the trim fell off. Stayed off for a year with no problems.

Rob, how did you replace the screen surrounds without taking the glass out?

You don't need to take the glass out. I had a new screen a few years ago. The fitters took the trims off and binned them, cut the old screen out and cleaned the opening, put a new screen in with whatever black gunky stuff they use and pushed/ glued the trims on.

Losing the one in the photo was my own fault. Removed for the respray and pushed it back without adhesive tape. The new one was a fiver from the scrappy and fitted with double sided trim tape.
