Look at my name DUH LOL
Hi Guys,

I have the entire dash of my Landy stripped out looking for rust and to go though wiring, change and upgrade some components etc.

I also decided to take out the windscreen which took me less than 10 mins to cut the seal and pop it out.

I was extremely happy that I did not find a speck of rust anywhere. The factory paint look like new both behind dash and all around windscreen seal locations in and out.

Since I am so far in the strip down, do you guys think it's wise to pull the windscreen frame to change the upper and lower seals and to look for rust at the same time?

Not sure if I can get the seal here, however there is a very good compressible rubber foam weather seal made for commercial doors and windows of which I have tons.

Would you guys think this would be a good substitute for a seal, taking into consideration I might use a film of flexible silicone too?

Thanks Mates.

Yes, you sometimes get rust holes in the mating surface that abuts the windscreen frame. So it's a good idea to look for any while it is in pieces. The seal isn't anything special, it's just flat, so it should be possible to make one should it need replacing.

Thanks Brown. It makes sense taking it out, fairly easy job and I have everything else out already. I have a good U.S made 1/2 inch self adhesive weather stripping I can use.

I will pull the frame out this weekend. I have read that there are some anchor pins below the frame so have to tilt the top out first then lift out vertically.

Thanks for the reply.

i used some normal 1" wide foam rubber strip for mine when i last changed it. Doesnt have the be the specific one :)

however you want closed cell foam - Not open cell

The seal is made with rubber but has a foam like texture, can tear easily but water proof. I think I will still place a film of black industrial silicone over it.

I think it is close cell, all four sided smooth, I will take a pic of the seal and upload it here.

Thanks for the reply Vilguy.

sounds like its closed cell. Its quite common stuff. Its firm...ish... when squished. Doesnt collapse like open cell.

Yes, water would almost certainly seep through ordinary sponge rubber. I was imagining something more like the texture of a camping mat but a bit thinner.

I will check the seal I have to see if it's weather proof or not. If it's not, I will check the hardware or automotive stores her to see what I can find.mi am happy it's just a straight forward seal and not something special with shapes and contours.

Thanks for the reply mates, much appreciated.

Cheers.
