Hello, anyone advise me how easy/hard it would be to tint the back and back side windows in my disco300 - or would it be cheeper in the long run to pay someone who knows what they're doin do it??

I used a spray from Halfords a few years ago - was fine until some kid decided to wipe the window with rings on his fingers. Kids!
 
you can buy the film from most motor factors and do it yourself. it's quite easy. the key is to make sure that the glass is absolutely clean and de-greased before applying it.
 
i have bikes quads and a disco - how can i get anything clean!!!! what about air bubbles and fold marks, is it quite easy to smooth them out cos you see some cars driving round looking a rite shed on the windows
 
Signwriters use a couple of drops of washing up liquid in water sprayed onto the glass (after it's thoroughly cleaned). Then you can adjust and squeeze out any bubbles.

Inside if it's the same one. That's how the little bastard scratched it - he wanted to see out. Where I live, only drug dealers have tints nowadays, oh, and the Russki mafia.
 
wondered about this spray also, does it not leave a coudy effect when you look out? or hoe dark does it go? does it depend on how many layers you spray?
as fer the film, its easy, personally i take the window out especially as they are all on rubbers on the disco, but yer use a bit of fairy liquid and spray it on the window, when you apply the film you squeeze it all out with your spreader, be carefull not to stretch the film though! that will give you a crease and a half!!

I only used it on the back window of a sherpa van, so wasn't too worried about the effects. I think the darkness depended on the number of coats. It didn't go cloudy or affect vision in any other way. Applying it meant masking everything off, which was a pain. I don't know how it (or the film) takes to being wound up and down on a side window. Btw, I understand it's illegal to put it on the front passenger windows nowadays.
 
I had my Freelander's back glass tinted by a professional - he did the back door and glass of the hard top in a 95% tint and the other 4 side windows in a 10% tint, all for £200. Might sound expensive, but was cheaper than buying a new parcel shelf at the time..... And he did a bloody good job of it as well. If I can remember his website I'll post it later.
 
i would check it out before you stick anything on the front side windows, i've heard a whisper that the powers that be are trying to ban anything at all done on the fronts
 
I've only ever seen the film used and that looks like it can be a bit of a potch,one things for sure though badly tinted window can make a car look seriously **** so you need to be careful.
 
with alot of the diy film it tends to shrink and blister in summer i wouldn't waist my money i would save up for a professional job if it is only 2 windows you want done shouldn't cost to much, there is a test the police carry out to see how much light comes through the window if you have tints on front ones , a guy in my works had his front door windows done with heavy tint got pulled not long after leaving the place that done it they made him remove the tints before he could drive away
