P38A Window and sunroof won't reset

I already knew about how to set the window and sunroof so I tried it to no avail. So I had a search and tried it slowly (holding it at the bottom for a few seconds) but still nothing. I've tried dozens of times. The motor will keep trying to close the window when it gets to the top causing a banging noise until I release the button. The sunroof isn't set either but no banging on that one. Haven't really tried the sunroof many times. So what's going on? Thankyou in advance

Are we talking P38? I guess we are.

Had that where couldn’t reset 1 window and it turned out that the window mechanism had cracked and it gave the banging you describe. Take off a door card and take a look while it’s operating.

Although strange you can’t set anything, but worth a look.

Sorry I didn't explain. Its a p38 and it's just the drivers window. It gets a bit stuck going up too.

Mine was only the drivers door on P38 too.
Some silicone spray to try and sort out judder may help, but just whip the door card off and take a look

Take the door card off. Chances are the teeth on the window mechanism are worn out at the end.

Does that mean a replacement unit? And does that explain not being able to set it

My drivers door is doing exactly the same, new window regulator required they are not expensive of the bay of e, just haven`t got round to it as car is not being used much

Might be repairable depending what's wrong but yes, that's why it won't set.
It needs to sense the motor stall to set so if it's slipping the motor won't stall.

The metal on the regulator is soft as butter so no wonder it wears. You'll need to drill a few rivets out and some small bolts to replace them with on reassembly.

To set sunroof it has to be taken through it's entire range of movement in both directions.

Try greasing the SR rails.
