winch with no winch bumper?

as per title, i want to put a winch on the front of my disco1 but dont want a winch bumper, is there anyway to fit one with the original bumper onto the chassis without welding if pos? also what size would you say to move a car or to pull my disco?

On my 110 I had a winch mount that fitted on top of the standard bumber and was fixed using the same bolts as the bumper. Would have thought you could adapt a disco bumper and or fabricate something but it's probably way less hassle to buy a purpose built bumper. As for winches go for the most powerful you can afford. Imagine a 2 ton disco stuck up to it's axles in lovely claggy mud, then imagine the force needed to yank it out

you could fit a discreet winch mount, bearmach do them i think, or make your own.

Or just buy a good tirfor & cable, Hi_lift and a length of chain. less likely to get your landy stolen, doesn't flatten your battery, Isn't limited to just one vehicle (winch is no good if there a couple of vehicles between you and the stuck vehicle and you can't reach it) and a fraction of the cost of a winch & winch bumper.

has anyone access to a template or drawings for a tray or winch bumper for self fabrication,please?Even for sale?

i have a discreet winch tray from a disco 2, it's kicking around in the garage, am in manchester.
got rid of the disco cos when even the aircon is run by a computer it's just way too much technology, now drive a lightweight with a 300 tdi and the only electronics in my lanny is the mobile phone in my pocket.

Contact Golddigger 4x4 golddigger4x4 - ENGINEERING AND FABRICATION they will sell you a winch plate that bolts in, give them details of your winch and it comes with the holes drill ect.

Cut a slot in the front bumper for hook and cable and cover it by hinging your number plate.

Done and sorted.

i bought a winch which came with a plate for a disco. sold it on ebay, it went for 30quid keep your eye out, these things do come up. it looked like it used the same wount system as a steering guard for a defender. you could easily use 2 of these and weld a tray in between.

i would suggest going for a 9.5k or 12k winch. make sure you also get the cable'ing right as this can sap power and reduce the performance of your winch. no good having a 12k winch with a narrow long wire from your batt!
