winch problem???

used my winch for the 1st time last night just to try it out,i dont know the model as all it says on it is series wound power made by warn.we tried it on a very steep upward hill and secured it to a tree,it seemed to work fine but then i let the switch go and went to re apply the switch and nothing happend,got the landy back down the slope,the switch will release the wire but wont wind it back in,you can hear a clicking in the top section of the winch when you press the switch so i assume this is the solenoids?,when we got home we tried it again and it seemed fine,it didnt feel hot anywhere when it stopped working so was it just too much pressure for the winch or what else could it be?

no its the normal warn grey sort of colour
