Hi thinking about putting in a switch so i can isolate the power from the battery to the winch. Have seen switches on ebay with the red plastic key but not sure if they will be "man enough" for the job?

The winch is a WARN 9.5ti

Can anyone recommend a good switch with a high continuous rating?

Cheers

You want the metal key type switches like this....

Nice 1 lads - i'll have a look!

I have just bought an albright solenoid thats 400amp continuous for a split charge and i'll control that with a switch and 2 volt gauges!

Just wondering if i could use a solenoid as an isolation switch?

You can but if it sticks (which they can do) you are still stuck with a winch that won't stop.

The metal keys type switches tend to lock open circuit when they fail. If you need to bypass it to use the winch in an emergency you can just join the 2 cables on one terminal on the back or bridge the terminals with a HD jump lead.

Right i see what you mean mate!
I'll get one of the switches in your link

Thanks for the help!!

I use Anderson connectors on the outside of my landy so I can simply pull the plug if I need to isolate the winch while outside the vehicle and I use the metal type key to isolate from the inside of the vehicle. I mount em on the passenger seat box but on the drivers side of the front face where I can reach em from the drivers seat.
