Hi all,

Have just been offered a very nice example of a 2001 discovery v8i lpg with 114,000 miles. I am new to discoveries but have had a defender for the last 4 years. Currently driving a fiesta but dont like it and want something i can go camping and take the dog in.

I do at least 200 miles a week and this will be my only vehicle, meaning if it breaks down i cant get to work - or will have to spend a stupid amount of time on the train.

So, am i likely to regret buying it for £3,250? And anything other than excessive corrosion i should be looking out for when i view it?

Thanks, and heres a pic:

In my opinion no, however sounds like you are having 2nd thoughts already

Go for it, we only live once, had my 51 plate for 9 years and no thoughts to get rid, in fact bought an 04 mot failure and working on that, just need to convince the wife we really need yto keep both.

How you gettin on wae that??

I do love them and really enjoyed tinkering with all the things that went wrong on my 90.

Does anyone who runs the v8 with LPG know how much 200 miles of motorway driving costs now?
Is the v8 easy enough to work on at home for a keen DIY enthusiast?
Any thoughts on that price?
And what do I need to look for other than rust and bad leaks?

I would just jump at it normally but can't quite afford massive bills and fuel costs at the mo. Currently get 40 mpg but know I'll be lucky to get half that, and I'm still desperate to get one.

Thanks

Been on holiday for a fortnight.
Weighing up my options but cant put the welding off for much longer.
Jury is still out on repair or replace

Are you thinking full chassis? An 04 with a galvanized chassis would be the bizz.

If you're a "keen DIY enthusiast" you should be able to keep a D2 on the road fairly cheaply. I've had my TD5 D2 for over 11 years and it's had its problems, but using these forums etc there's not much you can't sort at home. (Unlike the newer Discos!)
I don't know the mpg of a V8 but isn't usually the same mpg with LPG but the LPG is half the cost. (TD5 runs just under 30 mpg average, I'd have thought the V8 would be closer 20 mpg?)

4.0 Thor v8 in a d2 running 18" s will return around 16mpg combined when running petrol. They are awesome in auto running the thor lump!
