The indicator has been moved up and the cross member replaced with this chuncky tubular bumper which means the sides have also been cut to accomodate shape.
I just can't see how one would fit as all the ones i've seen seem to need fixing off to original cross member and top mount sits preety much where the indicator is.
My other option is the rear door mount, but not keen on this, or mount it on the roof in roof rack. Not keen on that either,

Anyone got another idea of how i could get swing out on or have any pics of a type with fixings that would do the job.

i'd like to find one that gives me as little to do to get to fit rather than buying one then hacking it about totally. Unless i can find one second hand at a reasonable price.
 
I think your going to find it hard to make one to fit. You nee the rear cross member to take most of the weight. The whole idea of a swing away was for the weight of the spare to be off the door and on the crossmember.

And as you dont have a rear crossmember.............:confused:
 
i can see that **** sticks in here, lol, and its not helping using that old pic so i braved the rain with my iphone to get a more up to date one up.

I am strongly considering putting a proper defender cross member back on but just can't ,ake up my mind what to do.
 
Can't you just weld a plate to the bumper as is, to raise the normal mount slightly. Seems to me it's just a case of metal-bending .. but without the carrier, and vehicle, to hand it's impossible to know exactly whether you can fit it and make it look reasonable.

Just chop the sodding thing of and put a proper crossmember on, it'll make life easier for spare wheel mounts and if you want rear winch, tow bar etc. Plus it'll have to be done when that one rusts off anyway :p

Regards your rear bumper. If it was me, id put a crossmember back on. Where are your rear recover points at the moment??? And you cant mount your swing away, which means the spare has to go inside or on the bonnet right?

The tubular bumper looks ok, but limits you. You could get a tow ball on the rear crossmember aswell to act as a recover point, and your swingaway would fit.

Just my point of view. :)
 
Speak to Pressbrake. I hear nothing but good stuff about his rear crossmembers. And he could possibly pre drill holes for the swing away.
 
what you see is what it was like when i got it. I'm not keen on the cut away body side look and would like to get mud flaps on her as right now your just looking at practically the whole tyre and underside when following. Just not keen on it.

My only other option for spare other than bonnet or rear door, is up on roof rack.
