As the title says really. My fender needs a new box, im thinking of breaking my 300tdi disco. Is it going to be a straight swap for the boxes? The defender has a disco 200 engine if that makes a difference? I have heard the R380 has a longer bell housing, can I swap mine across? Is it more complicated than im making out?

gearbox won't fit with out modifying the seat box. disco box has a longer bellhousing and main shaft.

This is what i have heard, if its just the seatbox then thats fine with me, i have heard its basically taking the leading edge back a bit.... Might have to rip it out and see...

Its not as simple as that!!

The whole box is longer the gear leavers come up by the seat box and looks **** poor IMO!

Also because you are now effectivly moving th ebox rearward you have to shorten your rear propshaft and extend your front one the gearbox mounts need to be moved rearward as the box now sits circa 4 inches furthur back as the bell housing is 4 inches longer.

The alternative is to move the engine forward as the 300's are. 300tdi and r380's are the same except the leavers and some selector internals. the physical dimensions are the same as LR had a generic units for both the disco and fender. but they put the 300 tdi furthur forward in the engine bay to allow for the longer bellhousing.

your best bet would be to rebuild your g box ask somone nicely to put a short shaft and bellhousing on your r380 OR fit you 300 from the disco in the LR and modify the selector and fit defender levers.
