Why is it noisier just before a long drive?

Maybe its just me, but the 110 has got noisier this week. More turbo whine heard in the cab - this happened suddenly one morning, and a deep rumble at 50mph.....

Still, made a 270 mile drive in 6.5 hours, (Friday night M25), its not any louder, and was happy at 60mph (I guess the noise is left behind..)

box and diff oil change (again) I reckon, and a check of the turbo hoses, although theres no dramatic loss of performance :)

I won't mention at this point the slight misfire under load when cold :)

I had this a while ago and discovered that my exhaust was touching the chassis. I loosened off the nuts and bolts at the joints and re-tightened them with a bit of wood between the pipe and the chassis so that it would sit a bit further away. Obviously I took the wood out before driving it. The exhaust now doesn't touch the chassis and it's a good bit quieter.

thats possible with a Euro car parts exhaust :)

It was quite a dear stainless one from some firm near Nottingham as I recall. Anyway, there was just enough wiggle in the joints to get it away from the chassis with a little adjustment.

Mine's Euros - it took some persuading, involving cutting and large men grunting to get it to fit....
