My sunroof is still sealed and dry and those round black rubber things on my wheels are absolutely correct, no wear at all, grip the road like s**t on a blanket just the same as they do on the Camel Challenge ... blah, blah, blah
And I threw a bucket of water over my gaylander and the doors stayed on.

Well my Defender has started every time and never broke down in the past two years that I have owned it. Should I get rid of it and buy a proper one?

The freelander and evoque are much taller with a higher driving position. Think along the lines of these:

My question is, why don't land rover compete? With all the modern technology, top mark brand etc etc it would surely be the a best seller?

but why ? why should they compete,
when most car makers have copied the 4 wheel drive from Landrover
(actually, not even the WW2 JEEP was a new Idea, 4wheel drive was used way back in the 1930`s I think)
all the cars/estates you have shown are just versions, options, rather than new Ideas.
I gave you some more main motor manufacturer 4wheel drive options no one is talking about,
scorpio/sierra.
cavalia/vectra.
and Hi powered cosworths with a sierra body, a scopio body, or a shortend sierra saffire chassis wrapped in fake escort panels as an escort cosworth....
all made, but not in quantities that made it viable.
look at the Japs home market versions of lots of there cars,
lucidis/eminas, and the other mitsibishi people carrier with shogun mechanicles underneath, plus lots of there small cars & light vans not normally sold here in the UK.
I`ve seen odd tiny vans like honda acty 4wheel drive
the only small light truck was the little scooby pickup...

Its all about marketing,
if theres a strong market for a product, people will buy,
if not, they wont, so why make 4wheel drive versions if they dont sell enough..

Have you seen under a rangie sport the rear lower wishbones are only about 4" off the ground cant see them ever doing any proper off roading wont that do ya ?

Even Subaru need volume . I was a Subaru dealer in Australia and sold quite a few "brumby" utes , but Subaru stopped making them as Australia was biggest market , and was just too small a demand , so had to find another cheap 4x4 ute for the farmers, found one made by ?

Sorry to say 1902 was the dutch 1903 germans but Porsche was the first. And 1911 for the Americans well ahead of the British who copied others

subarus have a good reputation for reliabilty,
even if you were to rebadge a subaru as soon as put the green oval on it would probably fail to start

Not any more, BRZ is RWD only. I love my Subaru, on my second one, first was a Tribeca, fabulous apart from huge thirst and £475 RFL, now got a Legacy Boxer Diesel, 48mpg, £170 tax, quick, comfortable. all the toys and totally reliable.
