my oil pressure light keeps coming on while waiting at junctions and as soon as i put my foot back on the gas and drive away it goes off again .

ive checked all the levels etc and everything looks normal , the temp gauge moves to the normal place so i was just wondering what could be causing it or do i add it to the list of " it happens , stop worrying its normal "

cheers

It may be dirty connection at the oil pressure switch. It may be a faulty switch. If its only flashing on I wouldn't panic but try a new switch when you can, they are not that expensive. Mike

it could be the switch, but its unlikely, it will not be a bad conection as the light works to earth, it will be low oil presure (not level) this can be caused buy a worn oil pump, or worn crankshaft bearings. all expensive, the onley other thing is your oil, do not use one of the modern thin oils, use a 20 /50

i originally filled it with 10/40 but a few others have said use 20/50 so i'll drain off the crap in there and replace it with new thicker stuff and see how that goes :)

If it goes out as soon as you go above tick over I wouldn't be worrying too much. I agree, use 20/50, and when convenient change the oil pressure sender, but I wouldn't be too concerned.
You engine is obviously getting tired but as long as you don't abuse it, it probabaly still has years of life left in it.
