Why do things wait till the morning of the MOT to break?!

Ok, it was the Spitfire this time rather than any of the Landy's - but, yesterday, everything working perfectly, had the engine running for a while, no problem at all, then, this morning, get in to drive down to garage and it would not start at all.

Quick poke around, determined no fuel getting to engine, so, walked down to garage, got 10l of fuel... no difference. :scratching_chin:

Then realised fuel pump was being a bit spazzy, so, poked that for a bit and got it running, but, still nothing :scratching_chin:

Some more poking later found the pipe between the tank and the fuel line had perished :rolleyes: So, new bit of pipe, and finally got it up and running and down to the garage... only an hour late :eek:
 
missed my first attempt with the landy, set off ok, got part way down the road and the fuel pick up pipe fell off :( took me ages to find the problem (curses)
 
My old 90 did this.

On the way to test centre, stopped a jet wash to blast off underneath.

When I pulled away I realised there were no indicators. The hazard switch had burned out!

Ran around all the local motor factors and couldn't get one for love nor money...
Took it for MOT anyway, just to see what else it would need, and the tester had a fiddle around with the wiring and got the indicators going.

And it passed!

I've never used this garage before, but, they are 100m from my house, so, thought i'd give them ago, they have some classics kicking around so i'm hopeful they understand them a bit... we'll see :scratching_chin:
 
mate took his S2 to mot yesterday morning, on the way there the clutch went :rolleyes:

on my car the nearside motor factor CV boot has split right before the mot, and again immediately after every mot retest since I've had it, but no problems for the 11 months in between.

What model is it? I had an old MK III for a few years until the kids came along......

And it would turn out my temporary fix was a bit **** and it's leaking fuel everywhere... so they refused to test it.

Where do you buy a 3/16" 90* elbow from off the street?! (Guess i have to wait for a eBay delivery.)

Apparently as well they've tightened up on neatness of wiring, so, need to do all that too.

Two weeks ago I put my Missus' motor in to the local garage to get the front tyres changed as one was a wee bit bald. Went back last Monday to collect it and the young lad said there had been a problem with it after doing the tyres he drove it about 50 yards from the back to the car park and there was a bang and the clutch stopped working! :mad:

In the 50 yards the release bearing seized and the friction plate 1/2 disintegrated. I suppose its better it happened there as opposed to miles away with the missus driving.
 
I can't remember what car it was now (Had too many!) but I remember removing my spare wheel to adjust the tyre pressure.

Snapped the bracket, wheel falls out. Tyre pressure was fine to start with, no way to secure it back to the underside of the car.

I ended up using washing line (Yes bright blue washing line) tied round the bracket, through the bracket hole in the boot floor, with a screwdriver tied round that end under the boot carpet to secure it!

When it failed on uneven rear braking, the MOT chap told me I didnt even need to have a spare wheel - DOH!

When I was rebuilding mine I took it for an MOT with only drivers seat in place, no hood, yellow bonnet, one blue door and one red door and the boot in primer. They passed it but I got stopped umpteen times by the police until I re-sprayed it and got it looking a bit more respectable.

I sold it for £ 450 in 1986 and wish I still had it now.

my 1st car I took for mot its passed but as I pulled out the garage the gearbox broke so I gave them the keys back and got them to fix it. turns out the diff seal had gone n most the oil came out and it was just one of them things, but least it had 12 months mot lol
 
Ouch. Even more fun in a GT6. Local road sign still bears the scars where my mate broadsided it in 1983! Took the roundabout a tad to quickly.....
