As per the title really. Now that I have got the excitement out my system I am preparing for the life of ownership of cost and failures. A NanoCom is the first thing on my shopping list.

Its a 99 DHSE 'Autobiography' (cannot remember if it has a commissioning plate) in Oxford Blue with Cream leather with 156K on the clock.

Its a bit rough around the edges but you get what you pay for and that was part of my plan. I therefore hope to revive, restore, replace and reinstall where necessary to get her up to spec.

I do have a couple of questions to get me started though. Firstly it does not have front fog lights but there are 2 different inserts types in their place. Did the DHSE come with front fog lights as standard? Secondly was the H+K sound system fitted as standard in these models or was it an option on top (cannot remember what is on the door tweeters)

This weekend I will have a good look over the car to see what needs addressing first and then build a plan from there. I will probably start with a complete change of fluids along with a brake system check.

You cannot fit fog lamps to 99 DHSE unless you move the gearbox oil cooler and fan. Diesel are not supposed to have them fitted. Can be done on earlier cars without the fan but you MUST vent the bumper cover as the lamp obstructs the oil cooler air inlet..

Ahh, that would explain why it looks like a blanking cover on the drivers side and a grill type cover on the near side. Obviously I have plenty to learn! Cheers.

We all had to learn somewhere..

Apart from wammers.. he hatched from his shell knowing pretty much most things about range rovers..

Oh and Saint V8.. he just likes taking things apart.. so a Range Rover to SV8 is just a sum of components

I ain't to bad and putting them back together either....just as long as you don't mind a few odd bits left over :D:D:D Oh....and you want it to work again! :D:D:D

OK,I've driven it for a couple of days now and had a chance to get it on to the motorway. I know that the engine is underpowered for a car this size but it does feel like its struggling a little on an incline and also keeping it at 70 on the Mway takes a bit of effort to get there and stay there.

So as a mini test I brought the car to a halt on a flat straight piece of road and floored it. It took 25 secs to get to 60 so it seems that something is not right. The kick down seems to be OK and there is no smoke that I can see to indicate an inefficient fuel burn.

Check the MAP sensor and the little pipe that goes to it...make sure it isn't split and the portsd under the manifold are clear....

The MAP sensor sits on the side of the the fuel filter.

Also a tired lift pump in the tank can cause sluggish running.
