Keep the language clean folks or I'll have to leave the forum (work friendly site)

Firstly, the freelanders suffered many faults from the outset, LR put it down to the high market demand at the time, which meant that quality control was being compromised and units, parts, components were being churned out in order to meet deadlines. From the freelanders concept LR were on a tight deadline for launch, facelifts were proposed years before they came about. Info from Haynes Freelander manual.

Secondly, many guys on here are die hard off roaders, defenders and discos. Something that the freelander will never be, but thats not why I bought it, I drive many a TD5 in work and relatives vehicles, they are not without problems (too many electronic problems). Friends Range Rover 4litre HSE engine blew at the end of the warranty, hmmm... what was that LR said about the new RR??? that it wouldnt break.

If there is one diesel that would get a mention on the MSN site, that would be the Tdi in the older Defenders, a solid workhorse, no false pretences.

Lastly, of course the prices have fallen out of the freelander market. New model on the go etc. But freelander was the market leader for a long time (around 2001) whereby it kept a highest 2nd hand value in its class.

Jeremy Clarkson also had nothing but praise for the freelander when it first came out. He couldnt fault it but then what would he know LOL
