Well, solved my whistling noise that I posted on a few weeks ago. I thought it was coming from the left of the engine bay. Noise seemed to stop after a short while so I didn't really think about it any more.
Then I found my aircon wasn't cold so I took it to Kwikflit for a re-gas. They did that and said it still wasn't cold but that I ahould give it a few days and if there was no improvement I should take it back and they'd put more gas in it.
Few days after, I was checking oil and realised that the reason there was no air con was that there was no drive belt! Just a few wispy remains of one hanging off a pulley. Well observed there Mr Kwiksquit.
Put a new belt on today, started engine..squeeeeeeeeeaaaal! Bottom pulley seized and not turning at all. Luckily for me it just unscrews from the engine. The bearing is totally shot, half the balls missing and the rest jammed solid with broken bits. So I reckon me whistling was the bearing all along.
Anyone got a bottom aircon pulley lying around they'd like to sell? If so, please pm me or reply here. In the meantime I'll start looking on Ebay for the breakers. Ho hum. Still, at least I know how the belts go on and off now _ I was sure I'd bought the wrong fan belt (Thought I'd change it whilst it was coming off) as it seemed too short. Eventually figured is easier to hook it over the small far right pully last while holding the tensioner slack!
