whining noise

hi all, ihave had a disco for a short time now and noticed that it has a whine type noise when it goes above 40mph it sounds like its at the back (poss rear diff area) is this common? there is no noise below 40 and it quietens down again at about 68mph

Hi Steve, you sound like you just taken over the Disco so the first question would be, have you changed the oil in both axles, the transfer box and the gearbox? Have you greased the UJ's and propshaft?

If you haven't, that's the place I would be starting on and as I've also just picked up another Disco, that's what I'l be doing this week.

You don't say what model/engine type/manaul or auto/year your Disco is, which would help people to help you.

cheers for the reply, yes i have had the car about 6 weeks, its a tdi and it doesnt look like much has been done recently so i will start by replacing oils

yer aint got yer doris in the landy wiv yer ave yer?

what tyres are you running? a few town n country tyres give a whine when they get up to certain speeds

it just running standard road tyres for the moment until i can afford all terrain so dont think its that.

the doris is a different type of whine to be honest and i switched off to that noise about 10yrs ago:blabla:

A good quality EP80x-90 fully synth will sort out the Doris whine as well - you'd want her to have the very best I'm sure

she gets top quality lube! its just the fact that its few and far between nowadays if you no what i mean
