Which Winch

I have done a search on here but most of the stuff I came up with is a couple of years old.
I am thinking of putting an electric winch on my 110 Defender.
I do a bit of off roading in the forest around here in France on my own so it would be handy to have a winch in case I get into trouble.
What I am trying to find out is what size power would you guys suggest for a 110 Defender.
My second question is are there any that would bolt onto my existing front bumper or would I have to get a bumper and winch combination. My Defender is ex military and I have the original bumper.
I have seen some on line, Warrior winches from the electric winch shop. Has anyone had any experience of these. They seem quiet cheap in comparison to some others I have seen. Normally you get what you pay for. I would only be using a winch in an emergency so its not for everyday use. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Buy a good second hand one instead and yes you'd need a bumper or at least a winch tray

so if you meant 9500 lbs why did you put 9.5 t then

t and lbs are completely different and if you had meant to put 9.5lb that would be 0.00424 tonnes in UK

Lecky winch shop told me the warrior is pants for decent off road coz it needs a lot of work to waterproof it fully, i bought a superwinch tigershark 9500lbs and its a good strong winch if i need more power i will just use a pulley block to double the strength.

I regards to the OP. A warrior will be fine for occasional use if taken care of, the moment you dont maintain it and come to use it though it int gonna work.

Your standard bumper wont have the hole mounts for a winch nor will it be thick enough for it not to rip the winch off the front

As has been said, at least a 9.5LBS not tonne :doh:

and if your on your own then i would suggest maybe a self recovery device such as a land anchor or the army version of the piece of metal with stakes in.

Spoke with someone a the winch shop. He suggested a 4.5 ton winch for a 110 Defender with no serious added weight on it. Plus I will need a winch bumper. Starting to talk serious money here unless I can get a second hand one.

Buy a second hand Tirfor winch, 5 tonnes pull can anchor to what ever you have to hand, only needs a wee bit of grease and is pretty much bullit proof.

Less than a hundred quid here or two hundre odd quid here complete.

Buy some strops for anchoring to trees, or ground anchors and away you go.

You,ll never need more than 5 ton pull on a defender.

I know a guy who's got a warrior winch on the back of his tray back and he said he's never had a moments bother with it, the solenoid is mounted in the cab tho, I like it cause of the name, I did some work at the electric winch shop ( fixing there boiler was like walking into a sweet shop). Looked at the warrior winches and found that there all brass inside apparently to stop the rusting
