Which UJ?

Hi all,

The UJ on the front prop on my 93 disco 200tdi manual has gone.

I just got the replacement through but had a horrible feeling I've ordered the wrong part.

The RTC number is RTC3291HS (HS195 Prop UJ Hardy Spicer)

RTC3291HS Front Propshaft UJ (HARDY SPICER) - all except 3.9V8

Only got the Hardy Spicer one as I thought it was the slightly better quality part but after some reading is sounds like a different prop/drivetrain system. Will this still fit or should I order another pronto? It's getting replaced on Thursday.

All except 3.9V8 ... I used those last time on my 300 Tdi, no worries ...

if you get stuck try this guy out, i got arear one, after i degreased it it proved to be in good order
200 300tdi prop shafts front on eBay, also, Land Rover, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 09-Feb-09 09:52:56 GMT)

That's good news - that's the reason I got it as it was all but 3.9v8 but wasn't too sure the implication of it being a Hardy Spicer - guess I'm just confusing myself again!

That could be handy if I've wrecked the shaft by driving it a bit. Hopefully it'll be ok....

Typical, first time we've had snow in ages and my landy is off the road - had to drive to work in an old escort with balding tyres....

i drove mine around with one of the uj gone for three days and all that happened was the needle bearings fell out! once i changed the uj it went nice and quiet and feels 100 times smoother. they are very easy to change as long as you have got a vice.

Put lots of grease in to hold the little needles in position. Only problem is if one of them comes adrift as you're driving the cap on. If it does, go out and buy another joint...

I heard they were a bastard to get off without a decent air wrench. I've booked it in with the garage anyway, should be a 1/2 hour job for them with a lift.

Can't see why you need a wrench. Pair of circlip pliers, correct size drift and copper hammer.

It's only a half hour job yerself. Bet the garage charge yer a hundred quid.

I have a pair of good props for a '91 tdi disco both got good uj's in can have em for the price of a pair of uj's

My old man said the bolts would be bastard tight....maybe shoulda had a go, I've have all the right tools...but then it is feckin cold out there so might be worth paying the money!

Haha - I used to charge a tenner for BJ's till all my teeth got knocked out. Now I charge £30....
