Which tyres

Going to be purchasing some new mud tyres shortly , thinking about BF goodrich mud terrains as they are a good wearing tyre and brilliant in the mud! But i have also just seen the Goodyear wrangler mud terrain which look a more aggresive tread anyone had these tyres or have any info about them cause i am now undecided and they are around the same price range???

The price range between the BFG's & the Goodyears, here, at least in Sweden, is considerable. The Goodyears are very expensive, compared to the BFG's. Yes, the goodyears are the hot tires on the market, but the BFG's are proven.

I'll be ordering new mud tires this week, I researched mud tires before making my decision and I'm going to buy Maxxis Buckshot Radial Mudders. These tires are nearly identical to the BGF's in all aspects, including wear out mileage, but the deciding factor that pushed me to these tires, was the cost. They are roughly $70 USD less per tire.

The best thing I could suggest, is to search the internet, get as much info as possible, then finally, open your wallet, for a new set of boots.

Cheers i will have a look. The ones i have seen are around £500 for 4 with 4 new steel wheels, the same for either brand but i will have a look on the net. thanks again

Don't bother with BF for MT's. I am sure they are very good but I and many others find remoulds like Black Star or Greenway brilliant tyres for laning. Any MT will be crap on road so why bother spending twice the money when the poor thing will spend its life wallowing off-road!

Don't go for the Goodyear Wrangler tyre I have two of those on my 89 SE Vogue and I'm forever ripping them off the rims.

Using an MT Tyre on the roads will effect the car (Different tread patterns/makeup on MT Tyre to AT BFG's are a name (personally don't like them but what do I know only had my Range Rover for amonth (But driven 2,000,000 in 10 years all over the world in many 4 wheel drives)

Go for a nice mid range tyre (Even retreads are up to the same spec as full brand and cheaper)

I have a set of Bronco Amazons (remoulds) on my defender 90 and they are superb. Speed rated up to 105mph (not that I'll ever see that happen), quiet on tarmac with good handling, self cleaning tread that works, and very good off road performance in all but the very worst mud. Best of all though, £220 for a set!!!

Thanks for all the replys only just read them today, ended up getting some BF Goodrich mts going cheap on ebay with wheels and couldn't resist!!

2,000,000 miles in 10years is certainly going some. According to my calcs. thats 549 miles a day, seven days a week for ten years!!!!! Don't you ever take a holiday?

Holidays ? haha last holiday I took we went to Scotland and did over 2,400 in two weeks. I do an extreme amount of driving (I'm the first to admit it) Previous to that was somewhere in the region of 6,000 in a week (Some moron zero'd the odemeter)

I'm starting to find the only good premium brand which will do excess of 40,000 is Continental (Don't know if these are available for 4x4's)

Let's put it this way :

A: Are you a professional driver Who will do 5,000 + + + Pw like me ?
B: Do you use you're 4x4 all day everyday?
C: Are you going to use you're 4x4 for the odd weekend of mud plugging ?
D: Are you on only mud or tarmac, sand or stones or a mix of all with more mud ?
E: Are you going on More mud less mud or more sand/stone/Tarmac?

If the answer is no to all or yes to D & E then I'd suggest a set of A/T's because a M/T tyre will drive horrid on uk roads and it will effect you're brakes.
Khumo do a nice cheapy one or if you are'nt going to do that many miles then go for a Remould (NOT a part warn they'll kill you & NOT NOT NOT a german import part warn)

Professional driver or not, 2,000,000 miles is a LOT of miles.

WHAT ON EARTH DO YOU DRIVE, could it be the Starship Enterprise by any chance?

5,000 per week is 714 per day for 7 days.

Now I enjoy driving, and have been known to drive from Lancashire to Munich, only stopping to get on the cross channel ferry.

The most in the shortest was probably 16,000 in four weeks and that was on the interstates and freeways in the U.S.A.

Given the present state of traffic in the British Isles, i.e. about one step from total gridlock, I seriously doubt that 714 miles per day is possible unless you find sleep to be totaly un-necessary.
