hello can't figure who to buy replacment springs from and it's driving me mad,

Am planing to replace all the suspension bushes shocks and springs on my 300 Disco, have read other threads and decided on standard bushes and i've already ordered those and a set of Bilstein B4 shocks, now just the springs, just want standard replacment front springs and a set of police spec rears (car always 5 up with 2 dogs and regulary tows 1-2 ton trailers) my question is who to buy from, looked at genuine from landy @ £36.50 + vat each but Paddocks (britpart) and Craddocks and Allmakes are cheaper, but are they good quality? have read threads on Britpart yellows which is why i'm staying standard but are there standard replacment springs ok?

Any thoughts or advice welcomed as this is driving me mad and holding up actually doing the job!

Cheers

Neil:confused:

I've been running Britpart (short of money) Standard height Heavy Duty springs all-round for a year now and would recommend them to anyone.

ON-ROAD, solo they are superb, for towing they are superb, for load-carrying they're superb.

OFF ROAD, well .. they give an inch or so extra height as they don't sag, but if I didn't tow as much I'd remove the ARB's to gain back a bit of suppleness, they tend to keep the Disco more 'squared up' and I reckon I've lost a little articulation.

It's always a compromise ... but for mostly road work they are a big improvement on stock springs.

Thanks for the advice guy's have thought about the britpart HD at first but then read all the stuff about them sagging early and got scared off, it's a lot of work and i don't fancy doing it again in a hurry

Have allready looked at this which how i decided on standard spec fronts and police spec rear springs, it's which manufacturer or supplier to get them from that i'm confused about. Do i buy genuine from dealer, or are the cheaper ones from Paddocks or Craddocks ok? I know i'll only save about £100 buy not buying from my dealer but my choice to keep the Metalastik bushes has meant i had to buy an hydraulic press so any saving is good, but dont want to compromise on quality and buy springs that will need replaced again in a years time.

The old man emu kit i have is bomp proof. Two years of heavy abuse and still they land like a cat:eek::D:):):)

I've read a lot about how good these are, but there megabucks so not hope, the missus would never stand for it, had real trouble explaining the visa bill for the press, lol

As I said speak to Craddocks they seem to have good rep. I've had no problems in the past with them.

If you wanted a lift I would say speak to Gwyn Lewis 4x4 as he is top and lift parts out there are copies of his stuff. I don't think he keeps standard height springs in. But might be worth having a chat.

I'll also add my vote for Old Man Emu kit. Had it on the Discovery for about 8 years now. Been laning, trialling and winch challenges in it and no problems with sagging anything like that.

It is definately worth the money. However, Terrafirma seem to be the rising star at the moment.....time will tell :)

go emu...it will save you doing it again in 18 months when you fail mot....
they are 10/10 for value
Hi again, I started this thread as I had read a lot of posts and decided to stick to standard springs to replace my old rusty sagging ones and i wanted to know who supplied good quality original equipment springs at a good price,
now i'm back looking at upgraded aftermarket springs again . Had a look at the spring chart you pointed out earlier and i'm thinking if I go with OME then I would want 760's for the front and 764's for the rear. i'm I right in thinking this would give me minimil extra lift? as i dont want to jack it up. I can live with upto 1" extra hight but not any more,
Thanks for the help and advice so far as my brain's fried, been trying to make my mind up for a couple of weeks now

Decided i'm going to take your advice and go with the Britpart yellows, the others had me goin back over the same ground again, they gave good advice but I just can't justify the expense right now, i've got shed loads of work to do to the old girl and have spent shed loads of money allready and the britparts are such a good price, will post how I get on with them,

cheers to all for taking the time out to try and help me, much appreciated hope I can return the favour some day.

I'm sure they will be fine. The main thing seems to be how long they last.

To help here I would keep a record of the spring heights. This will let you see how much they have sagged.

good idea, i'll measure the height at each corner once there on and then check it every time I do my going away once over.
