I own a 1972 SWB series 3. The leaf springs are okay but I want to raise it up a bit. I currently have a set of 2" lift shackles waiting to fit but have a question for future options.

Which is better to fit?

Parabolic springs and new shocks or a cool spring conversion?

Been quoted £600 for a coil spring conversion.

parabolic leaf's - if you go coil you loose you tax free status of the vehicle.

look at GB Springs - seem to be the best around!

If made before jan 73 its tax free, youre not paying road tax are you?

Cheaper and more effective to fit bigger tyres.
Will also reduce the likelyhood of getting your Diffs grounded.

Although to go above 7.5x16's you've need extended shackles anyway.

My (series 2 SWB) used to be fitted with 900x16's and was fitted with extended front shackles and has a rear spring conversion. I've changed the front heavy duty springs for parabolics and it rides nice with a similar height (I had to remove the extended shackles though with the parabolics as it was too high).

Gives about 2" lift which was enough to fit the 900's.

Currently only fitted with 205x16's unfortunately!!

Think the extended shackles are the way forward and then save for a set of parabolics. Which are best.

Car currently has a set of 265/16R75 wheels and tyres on.
