Have to admit that my preference leans toward Engel but someone mentioned to me that Luna fridges also have 3 year warranty (are more expensive) but are better on the battery consumption. Does anyone have any information/experience in using Luna?

Cant beat an engel, put 12 ottles of beer inone morning, turned it to half way on the dial and within 4 hours, there was a frozen mass of beer and broken glass in the bottom of the fridge, not bad at all for a fridge!!

engels win every time :) peak to simon at MPS 4x4, he is a top bloke. i nearly got a broken one off ebay and phoned him for info on parts etc. his advice was faultless and he had plenty of time to talk things through with me. If you can make it to the shows, they often have them on offer. a good all around size is the MT45 (40litre) which MPS sell for £435, i think.

Also look at ARB fridges. these are just re-badged engel's but you may well find them cheaper.

I have had an Engel in the back of my Defender for 12 years and it still hasnt missed a beat. Even driving through rough roads from Cape Town to Nairobi and in temps of over 42 degrees C. I think its the best. A duel battery system would be a good idea if you want to run a fridge. National Luna do a good duel battery managment system.

We plumped for a brand new 40ltr Engel in the end. Bought from Simon at MPS. Not fitted to split charge as yet and we took it camping for a shake down trip to Wells-next-the-Sea over the half term holiday. It was really fab. We plugged into mains directly on site. Wow - what a difference it made - fresh milk & yoghurts for the kiddies. Took everything direct from own home fridge - barbeque chicken for dinner etc. Really, really pleased. Have fitted high back trakker seats for children in 2nd row and now want to fit fridge between the middle 2nd row seats. Any tips on how to secure the fridge and also level it? What do people use to build the platform to house/secure - wood, metal, combination? MPS sell hinges and sliders etc. but we didn't buy thinking a bit of DIY in order however feel a bit stuck and need of help.

is there bolts there for the existing seat? im not familiar with the rear seats of the 110. anyway, you could use some box section steel and using the existing bolt holes bolt that down, then just bolt the fridge to the box section. this also allows the fridge to be raised above the level of the floor which will aid circulation and not be effected by the heat generated from the transmission tunnel so easily. been reading on other threads that this can be quite important when your ambient temps are high. it means that the compressor is working harder to chill the fridge down therefore using more battery power.

glad your happy with the engel. good choice :)

You should be able to make a carrier out of ally angle, and bolt together , fixing to the existing seat mounting points at the front and rivet to the floor at rear, engel do a tie down kit, although a small ratchet strap thru the handles should suffice. If you have aircon in the vehicle then fitting an insulated cover to the engel is not needed. If you dont then it would be a good idea. Being a compressor type fridge then being level is not a critical requirement. HTSH:)

I was just about to splash out on a Engel fridge and split charging system when I found a Waeco combicool 40 ltr fridge - it works off either 230v, 12v cigerette socket or gas! - so no need for spare battery or split charger. It has cost me £140 and it is a pretty tough piece of kit - take my work this is not a crappy cool box, at the back it looks like a normal fridge/freezer so I guess it's gas filled.
I put a glass of water in last night and it's frozen solid. I'm sure it's not as good as engel or luna but if you're workig to a budget look to further.

i think it all depends on how long and were you are going, like me n th emissus will be going to mongolia and hopefully india if we next year and it will be for around a year and let me tell you there is nothing like a cold bottle of water when its 45 outside.

ran my Engel MT45 for 4weeks solid through Morocco. never missed a beat keeping our vegetables, beer, softdrinks, butter, cheese, Bacon, Ham nice n fresh n cold.

coupled with the slide loc base it was also solid throughout boulder strewn oueds and bumpy pistes.

recommended :D

I got a National Luna 40l last week and it's awesome. It has a lower power draw than the Engel and is either Aluminum or Stainless (Mine's alu) making it far more rugged than the Engel which I frequently see with cracked plastic housings. It also has a thermostat you can set to temperature, unlike the Engel and hence why it is the only WHO approved portable fridge, (for medical supplies etc.) it also means that you won't set the dial in the wrong place and return to "a mess of glass and beer"

My Engel owning friend is now gutted he didn't buy one.
