Hi all - in need of a bit of advice - put a 200tdi in my old 90 a couple of years ago - used a steve parker adaptor, the front pipe off the disco, the original tail pipe and back box - 2.5 n/a and welded a bit of 2 inch pipe in place of the middle box. This has worked ok up untill 9.00pm last nite on the A1 when the back box disintgrated at an indicated 70mph! What is the best tail pipe/silencer to fit please? the 90 is 84 reg.

thanks
steve

Hi,
Ive got a similar setup. 200tdi from a defender in a 85 90. I've used an exhaust that came with the engine, It's from a TD. I've had to make one bracket up for the rear of the back box but thats it. What's the noise level like on youre as you have removed the center box?

Hi Tigger
With the back box only off the original n/a engine noise was fine at normal revs but it did sound a bit strangled at high revs. With no box at all now its great at low revs but just too much when its pushed hard! Turbo sounds sweet!
So a TD rear box should be better for gas flow than the n/a?

The TD exhaust works well on mine. A proper 200tdi exhaust is a bit larger bore though. I don't thrash it too much and I don't do too much towing so It works for me.

you can get away with a staight through single box performance type silencer on a Turbo diesel, because the turbo itself quietens the engine. I have a straight through stainless exhaust on mine with just one box at 450mm long, and it's not noisey at all. Also the turbo spins up quicker with a straight through system ;)
