Hi everyone,
So, I am sure this has been discussed to death but here goes.
My wife and I have decided to buy a Defender 110, we have 4 kids and lots of crap, oh and she is in Love with Land Rovers.
So which do you recommend. Is the 200tdi better than the 300tdi?
will on last longer, is the 300 noticably more powerful? Does it drink more Diesel? Does one need more servicing or will one last longer?
I think you get the idea. Any help will be much appreciated.
Oh last thing, can you run either on BioDiesel?
Thanks everyone.

condition of the chassis and bulhead is much more important than the minor differences between the injuns.
buy the one that's least rusty.
both injuns will run happily on bio or 40% veg in winter / 70% in summer.

OK, so should I instead be asking what to look for so that I don't buy a pig. I have worked on all my cars in the past, but normally after buying it I realise what I "should" have looked for? Any help as always is very much appreciated.
Also when you say "40% veg in winter / 70% in summer", can you inlighten me, what, how etc.
Thanks everyone

I was thinking of the same thing, so i've sold my 90 (200 tdi) and gone for a 110 TD5. If you can afford it then it is worlds better than tdi, especially if you do lots of miles.

go for an r reg if you can find one, they have all the bells and whistles on em as they were the last ones. just remember some of these have been offroad so have a good look around underneath, try to get an ex school run motor if you can, low mileage and never been hammered. most have towed horse boxes but thats no big deal ;)

would go with wot treg sez....TD5 is good...i have one and would not swop it for anything [im an idiot ya see] but for reliability the 200 or 300 are far better albeit a bit short on power

On that age have a good go with the tapping stick on the chassis, there were some that didnt have the right anti corrosion on them. Just saw one with a lee and lance newspaper and filler job on the main rails.

yep, on a 2000. a lot of the areas we go to are only accessable at low tide.....wash the hell outta the landy afterwards, but still she rusts

Well mate td5 s and all that sounds all right but if i were you id buy a 200 damn relaible motors nothing much goes wrong and if it does you allmost allways have a good chanse of fixinit and helps if you are in the midlle of nowhere oh yes and for your budget if your not in a hurry you can shop for a good'n

Is the 200 better than the 300 for reliability? Is the 300 more complicated? Does either have more electrics to to wrong? I am ways remember the old cars with no electrics and barely a thing to go wrong...

you can put 60% doozel and 40% vegetable oil in the tank in winter, 30% / 70% in summer. veg oil is only 70p a litre in tesco.
the injun will run fine and it's legal (up to 2500L per year).
just remember to change the fuel filter after the first 500 miles - veg is good at cleaning all the crap out of yer tank.
